Certainly, it's one of the most versatile, with styles ranging from delicate and mobile to massive and ceremonial. Listed below are several of the most common types of antique tables collectors are likely to encounter.

Antique Furniture Dining Furniture

The term butterfly refers to the wing-shaped braces that hold the leaves up when they are in use. The other side of the can be quite ornate. Early console tables were attached to the wall. Pier table is another name for this style of table.

They can be shaped like a semicircle or have a leaf that drops down to form a full circle when raised. These could be stored against a wall, and then moved away for serving as needed. Often used in small settings, these can be stored against a wall and used as accent tables when they are not being used for dining. They usually have a pedestal base with a round tray-like top and have been made in many different styles since they were first used in the 17th century. The base will also have a drawer for storage often, thus the reference to a hutch in the name. Originally dating to the mid-1700s, these are usually rectangular with rounded edges.

The petite leaves allow for versatility in use as an end table or a small serving table when they are raised. The wood along the edge of the top is crimped in a decorative way that resembles that of pie crust, and thus the name. These small tables were stored out of the way and then moved to the center of the room when it was time for the tea service. They have rectangular tops sitting on two or more trestles. They originated as simple, portable pieces of furniture but grew more and more ornate as time passed. The sleigh-style legs offer a minimal form with exceptional strength and an integrated footrest. This exclusive piece features an iron frame in a black finish. Thanksgiving on these chairs was very comfortable as we sat for a couple hours eating and telling stories. Also to give you scale for how these chairs look next to the table my table stands 29” high and these chairs are a couple inches above the sides of the table (it’s perfect).

I was surprised how quickly and easily these went together. They are also very sturdy and quite comfortable.

I am currently building a 10 ft farm table with black pipe legs so the black metal of these chairs will compliment my table nicely. Right near the small of the back arch, the fabric is coming apart from the frame. It seems the material was stuck with an adhesive and now it's pulling apart from use. They are high quality and look amazing with my new mangowood table (which has black metal legs as well). They were super easy to put together and are very comfortable. Also, the seat itself is a little taller than expected, which is good. The only weird thing was that when we pulled the black legs out of the packaging, we had to shake them out over a box, as little black particles came out of the inside of the steel legs. As the description states, the chairs are faux leather. Have realistic expectations about what you purchased and you won't be disappointed.

I have not had an opportunity to sit in them; however, the seat is cushioned and feels like it would be comfortable to sit in for extended periods. The hardest part for both chairs was installing the horizontal bar in the front using just the allen wrench provided (the optimist in me says, at least the tools were provided because some companies do not provide).

I may move the bench and just use all four chairs in the dining area. Deduct 1 star because installing that horizontal bar almost made me question life.
