Items such as cheese, smoked meats, quilts and oak wood furniture most likely are manufactured and finished locally. Even asking permission is treading on their religious culture and would be considered quite rude or even racist in nature. This is a different culture and ethnic group of people with deep religious principals.
Please be as considerate of their religion, as you would expect one to be of yours. Most have food/meals, ice cream, pies, prepared by the locals and are quite reasonable and tasty. The auctions take place throughout the warmer months. They sell everything from quilts to furniture to farm machinery. They feature locally produced hard wood products that are generally of very high quality. Furniture stores are scattered throughout the county offering these products which are usually manufactured without electricity.
There is quite a difference in the value and stiching. Made with sugar rather than corn sweetener. There are numerous horse sales and "exotic" sales throughout the year. Do your homework online, there are a lot of choices. He most likely will be very polite and set you right. Your main threat is on the roads from sightseeing drivers not paying attention to the often slow or stopped traffic. Food purchased at the numerous road side bakeries, cheese plants or home made canned items like jellies or preserves should be considered quite safe. If you buy farm eggs, they will likely be very fresh and tasty. Never allow your child to walk up on a horse, buggy, or other farm animal. This could be the best quality items we ever had!

Please make sure to park in appropriate places and be mindful when driving through these areas on sale days watching for children, shoppers loaded down with purchases and bargain hunters exiting their vehicles. We have dining and bedroom sets in all styles. Vintage toys, quilts, and tools complete this large home. As usual, a couple of non-auction events are thrown in.
I find that the food is slightly better the day before with greater variety. Around here it’s almost always rib night and the next day is often chicken only. The other communities tend towards being small enough that you might not be able to find them easily while traveling without knowing exactly where to go. Would you want to attend a produce or flower auction?
Many thanks, again, to “our” auction compiler. Even if we can’t make it to these events now, we can keep the names of the auctions and areas where they’re held for future use. They wear head coverings, but drive cars, not buggies. The locals refer to grocery carts as buggies!
We’d especially like to find a horse or buggy sale. There was much scrambling by myself and my girls to change vacations, etc. This is bad for us, but bad for you as well……if you add up what we usually spend at your auction, there is at least 4 figures!!!!!!
Due to the size of our sales, and all the website traffic we get, many 3rd party companies list our dates so their website gets more hits. And we have multiple people contacting us and stating the dates are wrong on other sites. And we cannot contact the people to change the date.
Three pinball machines also brought quite a bit of interest. The cupboard’s base had two dovetailed drawers, two double-paneled blind doors and a cut-out base. This desk was loaded with cubby holes, secret doors and multiple drawers. Decorative items also fared well at this event. They provide for their own - from their own, through benefit auctions. Most of them serve great tasting food for breakfast and lunch as well. They have anything from biscuits and gravy to bar-b-que chicken or ribs grilled over an outdoor grill. There's usually a bake sale, homemade ice cream, fry pies, donuts and pies. We've even seen homemade pizza baked in a wood burning oven at one auction. The good news in all this - admission is usually free and you're welcome to attend and get in on the wonderful experience!
