I found it best in some cases not to drive the pieces tightly together as in some instances it led to a chair that rocked a little. They put the legs and spindles on top of the table and strapped it down with no foam or cardboard in between.
The instructions for putting it together were not difficult to follow, but not the easiest either. I did have to do a couple returns with them before getting ones that were free of manufacturer defects (misaligned holes that prevented final assembly or broken parts). I bought unfinished and sprayed on polyurethane myself, which was very easy and looks great.
