It doesn’t matter whether you are trying to sell the set or buying it, once you know the approximate price, you can determine whether it’s a fair deal or not. For a dining room set to be an antique, it must be at least 100 years old.
If it’s not that old, it may be considered a vintage piece – if built about the 1950s. Its age, the quality of its craftsmanship and the dining set’s current condition drive its value up or down. Antique furniture shows age; it won’t have any sharp edges where constant usage has worn it down through the years. Look for rounded edges along the tabletop, chair edges or corners.
Antique screws appear irregular, unlike their modern counterparts. They won’t have evenly milled threads or sharpened tips. If the dining set came with a buffet or sideboard, pull out the drawers to see how they are joined. These include table and chair legs, table shape and the style of the feet at the end of the legs. If all else fails to help you establish a value for your mahogany dining set, contact an appraiser or an antiques dealer to have them give you a price range. It is in very good condition, and comes with a shaped glass top which has a tiny beveled edge. Please note the accessories pictured are not for sale, they are just to give you an idea of the table’s size and class!!
The table is magnificent, and comes with a shaped glass top. It is very solid and therefore heavy, and is in very good condition for what its’ age must be. The chairs are also in good condition for their age, there is some staining on some of the pads but it is a simple fix to get them recovered if that is what you wanted. It has front cabriole legs and original brass castors on rear legs. It is covered in a light blue and white check fabric. It is in excellent condition with no marks or tears in the fabric. Craftsman made, quality piece of furniture. In very good condition considering it’s age. Hutch seperates from base for easy transport. Solid mahogany wood with detailed ornate legs. The pictures will give you an idea of what happens, the middle section in the top is hinged so that when you open the front panel the top lifts, and that is where drinks are poured. It has 5 drawers, 2 small, 2 medium and 1 very deep drawer. Some small scratches, please see pictures. Dimensions are 100cm wide, 43cm deep, 102cm high. This is a beautiful solid wood desk that is in very good to excellent condition. The top three drawers each have keyholes, but we don’t have keys for them. In the centre there is a large circle of green leather. The sides and front of the top are rounded and curve gently in and out, and there is a lovely carved decorative piece in the centre of the front of the ‘skirt’ below the table top. There are 5 drawers, 2 half width drawers at the top and 3 large full width drawers below these. It didn’t even get a dust before the photos were taken and a light polish will bring it up very well. As can be seen, the chest is in good shape, and stands on 4 short turned feet. Two of the chairs have arm rests and different upholstery for both ends of the table.

The table also has a removable section to suit different configurations. This dining setting has been lovingly displayed and used for many years, however remains in immaculate condition. Regrettable sale, however we simply have no space for this beautiful setting due to planned downsizing in the near future. Attractive style hall stand is in overall beautiful condition. Just below the base of the drinks area there is a pull-out shelf for pouring drinks on. In the centre there is a large circle of green felt. The drawers are clean inside and open and close smoothly. Wood is generally separated into two categories, softwood and hardwood. Wood that comes from conifers, cone bearing evergreens, is deemed to be softwood in wood working circles. It is a reddish-brown wood with medium hardness but great strength and a beautiful variety of grain patterns. Natural mahogany is a light reddish tan and darkens with age to a deep reddish brown but it never naturally achieves the dark red-black appearance so often ascribed to it by turn of the century cabinet makers. This was the result of enthusiastic staining and regular resurfacing in later years. Beware of an “antique” with a textured mahogany finish. How Can I Determine the Price of an Antique Mahogany
The most common mahogany furniture material is wood. There is a ‘secret’ drawer at the top, then two small drawers and three large drawers. The wardrobe has some surface wear, chips, scratches and marks. But, as the pictures show, it is a very handsome piece. Moreover, this wardrobe is very practical: the deep drawers slide smoothly; the doors are securely hung and close and lock as they should; and there is generous deep space to hang clothes on the long hanging back rail. The wardrobe breaks down into two main sections plus the cornice. The dining table is very comfortable to sit at as there are no legs in the way. The table has a beautifully rippled mahogany top which was french polished a couple of years ago. Both of these areas could easily be filled in with wood filler and stained. Original stud detailing and seat covers could easily be re-covered with leather or upholstery to your choice. In a beautiful rich mahogany, the top of the desk is removable for easy transportation.
A lovely small twin pedestal writing desk with dark green leatherette writing surface and brass drop handles. The veneer to the base is chipped in places. Not a pair but very similar and both have matching pretty tapestry seats. In excellent condition – one chair has a small nick to the wood on the top and another on the back leg (see photos). Measures : 186 high, 62cm deep and 132cm wide. It has a lovely patina to the wood and has been a much loved piece of furniture – now no longer needed.
Missing one knob, 2 are loose but just need glueing. Damage consistent with age, old polished in marks and some edging broken off around the drawers. Dressing table – lovely detailing, two large drawers, 3 mirrors, and 4 further smaller drawers. Width of a double but with a single central door. Shelf and rail inside, mirror and shelf on the inside of the door. Slight damage to the feet and marks to the side as to be expected for an item of this age. Please study the pictures in detail, the item is squeezed into my kitchen currently – difficult to photograph!

The drawer fronts are a rich flame mahogany and they have original brass handles. This desk has bracket feet and lifts apart into three sections for easy transportation.
I would date it to around the 1930-50’s period.

We used it as an office/study chair with the mahogany table in first photo. Very solid chair on castors which revolves and also tilts back. It’s a very comfortable and supporting seat. This desk is from the middle of 20th century, it could be from 1960s – 1980s. Various age related knocks and bruises are present, but the leather top is in good condition without any holes. Free delivery within 50 miles, or an agreement can be reached if further afield. In reasonable condition few knocks and cracks as you would expect for an old piece of furniture. It is very solid and the drawers are in nice condition for their age. There are three drawers along the top the middle one contains many dividers for cutlery. A huge fourth drawer and two cupboards are under the drawers.
We used this as a drinks cabinet and storage unit for 10 years but selling due to a change of decoration. Stretcher is also nicely carved and has a decorative finial. Very nice condition with minimal scuffs/scratches to the wood. It just has two small scratches near the center of the table (pictured). The table is 27 1/2″ tall and 27 1/2″ across the top.
Mahogany Antique Furniture
The table(s) are older and do have an aged character. Underneath has 2 side cabinets and 3 deep, storage drawers in the middle. Matched single board top with curved in corners over a single drawer with a large ring pull with 4 downward facing finials. Genuine leather top with a small gold cord outlining the leather. The spiral carving that surrounds the entire top outer edge looks to have a golden glow. The top drawer opens to show a small writing desk with ink well slots on each side. Supported by a center pedestal and four claw feet, this is an elegant table. The outward-rolled arms feature carved rosettes and leaf carvings leading down to cornucopia carved claw feet. Claw feet also support the back of the sofa. This is a heavy sofa having springs in the seat. In my opinion there are no apologies, with the exception of a few dings from normal use. This sofa has been loved and cared for over the years. The cranberry and cream fabric is very nice, maybe needs a little cleaning. With a deep serpentine front chest has an eye-catching presents. In nice condition for it age~no big apologies. This is a wonderful display piece for any room. Leaf and flower carvings decorate the chair end and center of the back. Four double grooved shelves will display china or collectibles nicely. Croix, circa 1820, featuring scroll arms, paw feet and handwoven caning. We attempt to describe in detail and photograph even the most minor bump or scrape. Freight costs are not included in the price of the item. Table top can open to half round and half rectangular table. Raised on wide leafy supports on hairy paw feet. The top of the table need to be buffed out. It has an 18″ wide leaf that makes the table 84″ long when opened.
We are not responsible for minor subtle variances in hues that may occur through the use of digital photography. The table also has a bottom shelf and a drawer. There are very light nicks here and there, nothing unusual for it’s age. A tiny dab of dark stain here and there would quickly hide any nicks and blend them with the original finish in less than 5 minutes.
Antique Mahogany Chairs
It is 42″ long, 22″ wide and 38 1/2″ tall. Any imperfections that have occurred only add to the charm and uniqueness. Original hardware and casters, no warping, truly extraordinary for a piece of furniture that is almost 180 years old. The carved top sits on top of 6 carved legs. Open scrolled carvings decorate the front of the lounge. Double scrolled feet support the front of the lounge. Solid and very heavy it is in excellent condition. The five drawers are constructed with hand cut dovetails. Locks are present on all drawers but no key remains with the dresser. Combined with the traditional bow front shape and brass plate back pulls, this is a great dresser that would dress up any room of the house!
The condition of this piece is very good. The wooden knob pulls on the drawers are probably not original but are unique and in great shape. While these are no doubt not the original pulls they look great on the piece!
The result is a very beautiful cupboard that would function well for many uses. The top has sustained various stains and indents. The rosewood banding around the outside has developed crackling and crazing. All of the legs are strong and have no repairs to them. The left side has a small age separation in it, but that is not abnormal for a piece of this age. The hand cut dovetails on the drawers are not only evidence of this but show the care that went into the chest’s construction. Made from a lovely mahogany wood and covered with a fine, green leather writing surface, this desk is quite the find!
This elegant aging process owes its attractive end result in part to the fine finish on the wood, which is protected by a hand-rubbed coat of wax. The threaded wooden bolt or stud on top is 3 1/2″ high. Mahogany with hand carving on the legs and applied carving on the sides. The top has stick and ball panels, with barley twist and turned legs. Marble top with no chips, wood is in great condition for its age with slight finish wear and no chips or splitting, 1 cap which covers screws on legs of the table is missing. Dark wood may be mahogany, but not certain. Threaded bolt out the bottom and original square beveled mounting board on top.
Fabric is clean and crisp as pictured and backing and underpining, as well as stitching and fabric under cushions is in marvelous condition.
